Mommy Confessions: My guilty pleasure

Welcome to Tuesday!!!

You guys, this next secret is so, so shameful.

Remember how I told you that I got a new Kindle Fire HD for Christmas this past year? Well, I should also tell you that sometimes (ok, 98% of the time) I have a love/hate relationship with books. Don’t get me wrong, I love books. I’m a quick reader, and enjoy being immersed in a book. Unfortunately, I have book O.C.D. Seriously, I get tunnel vision. If I start a really good book, I will not put it down. I’ve been known to stay awake until 5 or 6am reading a book until it’s done. In fact, that’s pretty normal.

So while I love reading, I admit my weakness, and hate myself for depriving myself of sleep in order to finish a book.

To give you an example of the compulsion, I read all three Twilight books in less than 48 hours. Non-stop.

However, I digress. Mostly because I’m so ashamed of what I’m going to tell you next.

Disclaimer: Mom, and any other family member- STOP READING NOW!

I have a serious mild addiction to raunchy romance novels. (And obviously celebrity gossip, but of course, you know that about me already.)

See that “carousal” above? That’s like, 1/4 of them. Books like 50 Shades of Grey and other “erotic novels” of the sort.

Quite honestly, if I had to read actual paper books of these novels, I would be too ashamed to even hold them out in public. But that’s the genius thing about Kindles, you see; no one has to know what you’re reading!

You bet your butt that I sat at my hair appointment reading this filth. Who would know any differently?

For all you know, I’m reading Charlotte- Freakin’ -Bronte.

But I’m not.

I’m actually reading books that would make Jane Eyre blush, and probably have a stroke.

Have any good book recommendations for me? Please remember I am not one for an elaborate *cough* plot.

Have you read “The claiming of Sleeping beauty”?

  • I’m about to jump on this shame bus right with you.

I listen to books in my car during my commute and when I was scrolling through book options this book caught my eye that I could remember people tweeting about or whatever, so I bought it.

    It was “Bared to You”.

Can we please discuss how graphic that book is? Now imagine listening to it! I veered onto the rumble strips at one point. No lie. HAHAHAHA. Definitely “read” (aka listened) to the second one too.

  • This is a very good point… that you don’t need to share with the world what you’re reading if you own a Kindle. Now I kind of want one! Not too mention, they are less bulky than an actual book. My mother-in-law got “50 Shades of Grey” because all her co-workers were goin’ on about it and she had no clue what it was all about. She ended up reading it and then felt it necessary to pass along to me. She MUST REALLY want more grandchildren, too bad she is going to have to rely on her two daughters for that one! ;)

  • Ahhahaha this is pretty hilarious. My mom has this weird obsession with Indians…Like, the native American Indians that used to inhabit this land before we so rudely took over…and she loved what she affectionately termed “Indian Romance” novels. But my sister and I knewwww all about those things and when mom wasn’t looking, we would flip through to find a “good part” to giggle over. Your way is better. But luckily, mom did not pass that interest on to me!
