Sunday night was rough, friends. Really rough. I got about an hour’s worth of sleep all night- combined. I’ve been trying to make up for it all week, but sometimes, it just doesn’t happen. But I’m skipping ahead, so I’ll backtrack.
Sunday night. Excruciating pain. I couldn’t get comfortable, and my stomach just hurt, all night long. I had severe cramping around my c-section scar, so (on the advice of Heather) decided to call my doctor the next morning. Understandably, they wanted me to come in to the office, and hooked me up to a few different monitors and ran a few tests.
The prognosis? I have a hernia.
Supposedly they are common throughout pregnancy, because of all of the stretching that occurs, and even more common in second pregnancies, because our body has a “been there, done that” mentality.
The downside is that my low-riding baby gut is constantly pushing on my hernia, so it’s basically always hurting. There’s no avoiding it. It is what it is.
But there’s a part two of this story. One that ultimately concerned the doctor far more than my hernia. When I was there, I had to do a urine test as procedure, and they found protein in it. For those of you that don’t know (which is honestly probably 98% of you, unless you’ve had preeclampsia previously) protein in the urine goes hand in hand with pre-e. That’s the entire reason that I was induced early with Vivien- because of the high amount of protein in my urine.
The doctor said it was a small amount, however, it’s enough to have her slightly worried, and wanting to bring me in more often for monitoring. In talking with a friend this afternoon who teaches baby classes, she brought it to my attention that pregnant women should aim to get more dietary protein daily (around 75-80 grams/day) because it’s been proven to decrease the risk of preeclampsia and protein in the urine.
So today I’ve been downing more protein than usual, as well as downloaded a protein tracker app for my phone to be able to effectively monitor it daily. It’s got to be worth a try, right?
Anyway, I plan to take pregnancy photos later today, so instead you will get a random photo of Vivien, chowing down on her recent breakfast of choice- plain wheat bread. What. A. Freak.
Oh snap. And it’s an instagram picture. Womp. Also? Don’t judge my no-outlet cover. I was actually just getting done running the vacuum, and she had climbed up in her chair to eat her “breakfast.” And she didn’t electrocute herself.
